In keeping with its good governance practices regarding environmental and social responsibility, Golden Band has the necessary licenses and permits for its activities operations. The Company has deposited funds totaling $369,330 with the Saskatchewan Environment department as required by the department to cover clean-up and remediation of the Company's Jolu mill.
Senior management of the Company proactively participates in government / industry consultation and planning bodies. These include the Saskatchewan Mining Association (with two director's positions being held) and the Saskatchewan Mineral Exploration Government Advisory Committee (with the Industry co-chair position held). In this capacity, Golden Band has played a significant role in the development with government of new mineral exploration guidelines (best management practices). Golden Band's environmental practices have been included as an example in the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada's (PDAC) Environmental Excellence in Exploration (E3) e-manual. This is an online resource for environmentally and socially responsible exploration practices and issues.
Golden Band Resources is currently preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for its proposed Jolu Central Mill Gold Project in the La Ronge gold belt of northern Saskatchewan. The Project Proposal, as submitted to the provincial regulators on July 12, 2007, was amended in scope and resubmitted on February 19, 2008. Golden Band is proposing with this initial, amended scope, the development of mining operations based on using the company’s centrally located Jolu gold mill and the operating of up to five mines. Under this initial project proposal, the anticipated life of the project is four years, with the mill being fed from the following gold deposits: Komis; EP; Bingo; Jolu; and Decade.
The Environmental Impact Statement is being prepared by Golden Band in accordance with the Project Specific Guidelines issued by the Province in May 2008 and with the comments received by Environment Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada in July 2008. The submission of the EIS is scheduled for the end of August 2008.
Information meetings on the proposed project were held in the communities of Brabant, Grandmothers Bay, Missinipe, Stanley Mission, Sucker River and La Ronge between July 15 and 18, 2008. Transcripts for these information meetings are provided below.
